Edwardian Silver Sifter Spoon, Atkin Bros, 1902
This is a smart Edwardian Sterling Silver Sifter Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The pierced sifter bowl is shaped as a scallop shell and gilded on the inside. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoon is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers and dates to 1902. With a 200 year history stretching from the 1750s to the 1950s, Atkin Brothers were one of the great names of Sheffield silver and silver plate, particularly in regard to cutlery and flatware although they also made a wide range of other pieces.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sifter spoon is 9.5cm / 3.7ins long and 4.1cm / 1.6ins across the bowl. It weighs in at 16.7g / 0.59oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1902 and the HA makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
