A very attractive solid carved oak children's carousel horse. Probably Austrian it has three holes in its stomach for rods. It has later been converted to a rocking horse and a swing base is also available although not original. Beautifully carved and sensitively restored with original techniques using gesso and shellac so it will darken with age. This is an genuine piece dating from the late 19th to early 20th century and is not to be confused the soft wood reproductions with squarely carved heads and a raised foot that can be bought for under a few hundred pounds. The horse can be added to the base but has been shown independently as originally intended.
