Liberty was opened in 1875 by arthur lasenby liberty and soon became one of the foremost arts and crafts retailers employing leonard wyburd (1865-1958) as a designer for liberty's from 1883-1903. The son of the painter francis john wyburd he worked with liberty's for 20 years, he finished with them in 1903 and opened his own shop in 1905 in london.
The arts and crafts movement was influenced by overtones of other styles, this one is after the moorish taste but also at this time gaining influence was the scottish or glasgow style.
