African Bamileke Bed C.1900 Cameroon Grasslands
Very Scare and early Bamileke Bed from the Cameroon Grasslands.
This fine example of an early Bamileke Bed is profusely carved from a single trunk., The resting position carved with a seated ‘Fon’ with Elephant and Leopard below.
Beds, like stools were among the most important of these objects.
The leopard cunning, fast, mobile and guardedly aggressive, signifies the ability to survive and is the most important royal icon, often even the king's alter ego.
This is a fine and rare example with the opportunity to acquire what really is nothing short of museum quality.
