2 x Edwardian Silver Green Man Dishes, 1901
Here we have a striking pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Pierced Dishes. The dishes are oval shaped with broad decorated rims, pierced scroll decoration on the sides and eye-catching Green Man faces embossed at either end.
The dishes were made in Sheffield by silversmith John Henry Potter and date to 1901. John Henry Potter established his business at the Rockingham Works in Sheffield in 1885. The firm primarily made high quality silver tableware and flatware but also produced a range of trophy cups. They remained in business into the mid-1930s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the intricate pierced work and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dishes are each 14.7cm / 5.8ins long by 11cm / 4.3ins wide and stand 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. The pair together weigh in at a substantial 141.5g / 4.99oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside bases, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter II for 1901 and the J H P makers' mark for John Henry Potter.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the dishes.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
