19th Century Riley's Blue & White Platter
A very attractive Staffordshire Riley's Blue and white 'Dromedary pattern'platter. The central area has a desert scene and is surrounded by a border of garden flowers and foliage. The platter was produced by John and Richard Riley at their Burslem pottery which was established in 1802. They produced fine blue printed ware until the firm closed in 1828. The condition of the platter is good, the colour is a lovely rich blue, there has been minor restoration to a small area of the back of the rim, this has been well done and is not obvious. The glaze to the front is in good order, there is slight wear to the glaze at the back, understandable on an item in use for almost 200 years. There is an imprest mark '16' on the back. A good decorative platter in a very desirable pattern.
