18th Century First Period Worcester Trio George 111 Worcester ceramic %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A first period Worcester porcelain trio, in the wrythen fluted form, hand-painted with cobalt blue and gilded decoration. All pieces marked with the crescent mark.

Simple late 18th century styling, a Worcester spiral fluted trio comprising coffee cup, tea bowl and saucer, c.1790. Decorated with floral sprigs in underglaze blue with gilded foliage and framed with running borders inside and out. The tea bowl and saucer have a stylised flower head motif in gold over a central underglaze blue pistil.

The saucer and tea bowl and coffee cup are marked with the period small blue crescent the foot rim is the triangular foot of Worcester rather than the crossover square foot of earlier Caughley pieces, c.1790.

The saucer measures 13.3cm (5 1/4") wide and 3cm (1 1/8") high. The tea bowl measures 8.3cm (3 1/4") wide and 5.3cm (2 1/16") high. The coffee cup is 9cm (3 1/2") rim to handle, 6.3cm (2 5/8") rim tot rim and 6.3cm (2 5/8") high.

Condition is very good there is a fleabite inside the foot rim of the tea bowl and a further one to the outside surface near to the rim (it has not affected the shape and integrity of the bowl). The inside of the foot rim of the saucer has 3 fleabites. The gilding is excellent overall we would be very picky if we were to report any losses but the tea bowl shows tiny evidence of wear.
