#AD198 Vintage Lady Spitoon Decorated Antique Mask Jug:

This is a wonderful and unusual, rare 19th c. ladie's spitoon jug with a mask jug side spout and figural face. A great piece of tobacciana. It measures 3.75 inches in height, and the condition is beautiful. There is some slight wearing of the painted gold gilt on top and handle edge from hand use. It is a piece of heavy ironstone of very high quality.

Spittoons, also spelled as spitoon were vessels to spit into, when the use of early chewing tobacco was in its heyday. It is also known as a cuspidore or cuspidor and/or in medical terms, this would be a sputum jug.

This piece was made for women in the Victorian and early Edwardian era. It has an amazingly wonderful gold gilded face with much character, as seen in photos.

This old jug or pitcher was found in the Newton Abbot, Devon, England area with another rare decorated ladie's spitoon mug with covered lid, and an old invalid or baby feeder. They were owned by the same English family. It has no chips, cracks or restoration.

In the era of women's rights and voting rights, and the suffragette movement in Britain, this was specifically made for the women's market. Unusual women's era pieces such as this are prized and vintage collectibles.

Size: 3.75 inches high, 4 inch diameter jug, 5.75 inches in width including handle
